Andrew Forrest was named the WA Business Leader of the Year in a glittering ceremony to recognise the State’s best businesses and the people who run them.

Mr Forrest, who is behind the Fortescue Metals Group, won the title last night at the Australian Institute of Management WA WestBusiness Pinnacle Awards.

Mr Forrest’s contribution to WA extends well beyond mining, to include efforts to promote Australian farmers through a partnership with China, as well as tens of millions of dollars in philanthropic donations.

Last year’s winner, Wesfarmers boss Richard Goyder, presented the award in front of 660 people at Crown.

The other winners in eight other categories in the Pinnacles Awards were:

Aboriginal Leadership Development Excellence: Rio Tinto
